Steve Shirley
President & CEO

As President and CEO, Steve is responsible for all aspects of University Mechanical's operations in California. Steve has more than 45 years of experience in the industry. He contributes to the industry through various affiliations, including: the California Plumbing & Mechanical Contractors Association (CPMCA, founding and past president), the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA, board member), the Mechanical Contracting Education and Research Association (MCERA, board member), the local Lean Construction Institute Community of Practices, and numerous other industry and community-related associations and activities.

Pete Novak
EVP & CFO

Serving as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for both the California and Arizona companies, Pete is responsible for all aspects of Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, IT, and Legal. Pete has over 46 years of experience in Accounting and is a founding board member of the Construction Financial Management Association [CFMA] for Arizona and a current member of the San Diego chapter.

John Modjeski
Senior Vice President

Responsible for sales and operations, John has extensive expertise in client relations, contract administration, internal coordination, and project management—skills that are beneficial to both the company and the client. Specializing in fast track and design-build projects, John offers valued guidance to the project management team, especially in laboratory, educational, industrial, and water resource facilities projects.

Steve Thompson, P.E.
VP Preconstruction Services

Leading the Preconstruction Team in business development and estimating pursuits, Steve helps review and/or recommend proposed design options, equipment selections, and installation methods that encompass mechanical design, construction, and scope. With more than 32 years of construction experience, Steve's brings skills related to: research, healthcare, hospitality, educational, communication, high-rise, detention center, and water treatment facilities.

Pat Paulson
VP Construction

To help ensure projects proceed according to the goals set forth and meet a balance of schedule and safety targets, Pat works closely with the owners, general contractors, and project teams throughout all phases of a projects. With more than 34 years of experience in the construction industry, Pat offers skill and value in client relations, contract administration, internal coordination, and project management.

Roger Gedminas, P.E.
VP Engineering

Roger brings nearly 30 years of industry experience relating to the start-up, testing, balancing, and commissioning of complex mechanical and industrial projects. An active member of the Southern California Environmental Balancing Bureau (the local chapter of National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB)) since 2009, Roger currently sits as local area president and holds certifications in testing, adjusting, and balancing (air and hydronics), sound, and vibrations as well as whole building systems commissioning.
