Miramar Chiller Consolidation
Mechanical Construction & Design/Build Services
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
To replace its outdated chilled water plant with newer, more energy-efficient equipment.
VALUE DELIVERED
Reduced energy consumption and cost; professional removal of old equipment; more reliable cooling system; expert system design; convenient single-source mechanical construction; timely, cost-effective project delivery.
SOLUTIONS
This client chose UMEC as the general contractor for this complex design/build project because of the company's extensive design/build and engineering capabilities. The company's scope of work began with demolition of the existing chilled water plant and removal of seven existing air-cooled chillers along with pumps and related piping. UMEC's experts then installed two water-cooled centrifugal chillers, each with 200 tons of capacity, as well as two induced-draft cooling towers. To complete the job, the company added glycol and chilled water pumps and piping, 15 ice storage tanks, and other associated piping. Other Information: The Marine Corps’ safety officer commended this project as an example of how work on this base should be performed.
