CLIENT OBJECTIVES
The University of California San Diego Facilities Design and Construction needed design-assist, mechanical, and plumbing services for a large, 200+ bed expansion to Thornton Hospital. Twelve operating rooms, an MRI operating room, and a bone marrow transplant floor will be part of the new hospital.
PROJECT SOLUTIONS
UMEC provided design-assist, mechanical, and plumbing services for the comprehensive upgrades and expansion of the facility. The renovation component included roughly 70,000 square feet of renovations to the existing Thornton Hospital and consisted primarily of renovations to imaging, surgery, and support spaces located on the existing lower level.

UCSD is one of the top 15 public research universities. Campus enrollment as of fall 2015 was 33,735, including undergrad and graduate students. UCSD has earned over $1 billion in annual research funding for a myriad of disciplines.
