Grossmont Hospital
Mechanical Construction: HVAC, Plumbing & Piping Systems Services
VALUE DELIVERED
Increased capacity for handling emergency and critical care patients; broader hospital service capabilities; improved medical care for people living within the facility’s 750-square mile service area.
CONSTRUCTION SCOPE OF WORK
To construct a new 170,000 square-foot state-of-the-art emergency and critical care center, while enabling conversion of a former emergency room into an expanded radiology department.
HEALTHCARE FACILITY BACKGROUND
Based in San Diego, California, Sharp HealthCare is an integrated regional healthcare delivery system. The system includes four acute-care hospitals, three specialty hospitals and three medical groups, plus a full spectrum of other facilities and services. An acute-care facility, Grossmont Hospital’s new state-of-the-art center provides efficient, personalized critical care and emergency services in one convenient location.
MECHANICAL, PLUMBING & HVAC SOLUTIONS
Within 14 months, UMEC provided all of the necessary HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems installation.
To complete this mechanical construction project within the "fast-track" schedule, UMEC had to make some unusual adjustments. Since the new building’s footprint consumed all of the available land, there was no site "lay-down" area. Consequently, all material and manpower had to be transported to the site from an area 1.5 miles away, while keeping the project on time.
