California Institution for Men, CHINO, CA
Mechanical, Industrial Piping & Pipe Fabrication Services
VALUE DELIVERED
Safer water and improved health for employees and inmates; reduced medical costs; greater cost efficiencies; long-term protection of taxpayers' capital investment in criminal justice infrastructure.
CONSTRUCTION OBJECTIVES
To purify groundwater stored in one of its reservoirs.
MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS
This client chose UMEC because of the company's expert pipe fabrication capabilities. The company's mechanical services scope of work required fabricating 2,000 linear feet of corrosion-resistant carbon and stainless steel piping, ranging in diameter from four to 16 inches. The industrial piping is an integral component of the facility's new, granulated-activated charcoal carbon filtration system, which is now used to purify groundwater stored in the prison's reservoir.
CORRECTIONAL FACILITY BACKGROUND
The California Institution for Men (CIM) consists of four separate facilities under the administration of one warden. CIM serves as a minimum-through-medium security reception center for parolees returning to custody and male felons that have been newly committed to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
